Learn the astonishing power of the body mind connection with Erin at the Banff Yoga Festival. Explore new aspects of the chakras. Often the chakras are taught simply as  energetics.  In this workshop we see how the chakras energies can be seen in the physical form.  Included are handouts, reflective writing activities, group and one-on-one discussions. This workshop is a great way to bridge energetic understanding into a tangible and practical experience.

Learning Objectives:

1. understand the basics of chakra energetics reflected in physical body.

2. How posture enhances and depletes certain chakras.

3. Understand yourself and the world around you with more compassion.

February = Self Care Month

My best self care practise is taking 5 min increments every day to do something just for me. This changes daily from a walk in nature, movement, nourishing food, getting a treatment, mediation and so much more.

For me its more important to create the daily habit of self love and self inquiry. Practising in this way ensures I genuinely check in and give myself what ever is best at that time to bring me into balance.  What I love about this practise is that my initial 5 min dedication often turns into a longer period of time effortlessly because it feels so good.

As a 4th year manual Osteopathy student and a entrepreneur working full time, life is very full and my to do list feels unending. When I began my studies the workload was immense and my self care practise where none existent as a result for a time. The thought of having to add anything else to my day to accomplish was simply to much. The 5 min check in became a way for me to override my task orientated brain and bring myself into a place of being.

Everyone has 5 min a day to spare. This gentle compassionate practise is my favourite way to encourage self love and care. ~ Erin

The idea of the Health as a living principle and phenomenon that can be palpated and accessed as a therapeutic force is unique to osteopathy.

This was one of Dr. Still’s most significant contributions to health care and humanity and often one of the most misunderstood principles of osteopathy. The Health in osteopathy is far more than the absence of symptoms or disease; the Health is a living intelligence and therapeutic force responsible for all growth, development and healing from conception, to embryogenesis and through out life.

The Health is our indwelling and natural perfection. It is a wisdom and intelligence that maintains balance harmony, and homeostasis, it keeps all physiologic functions in balance, it heals a cut finger or injured bone to perfection, restoring the original form. The Health is always present.

Why I study Manual Osteopathy ~ Erin Chaba

My beginning in the health and wellness field started with Psychosomatic therapy. It is the study of how our thought patterns and emotions effect our physicality. I was satisfied with my work but but as I grew in the field I began having more clients where theirs issues were stuck in their tissues and no matter how dedicated they were to changing their mental emotional patterns we were not getting as good of results as I wanted.

My best mentors at the time all had massage therapy as their first career before Psychosomatic Therapy. So I signed up for the next RMT training. This offered a wonderful new tool kit for a time but again I reached a point where the Psychosomatic tool kit and massage tool kit were only taking me so far with my clients. I was sensing much more going on with my clients but was unsure as how to support these new layers that were presenting themselves.

I noticed manual osteopathy was on my health plan from work, so I thought I would give it a try. Within the first minute of my visual evaluation with Nathalie, tremendously talented Manual Osteopath in Canmore at Consensio Clinic, asked what occurred with my clavicle ? It's the only bone I have ever broken in my life, it happened when I was a couple months old. The numerous physio's, chiropractors, massage therapists, body workers I've seen throughout my life had all dismissed my clavicle break when I brought it up so I stopped mentioning it.

Within one manual osteopathy session the difference I felt in my neck, clavicle, shoulders and general health was different then I had felt from other modalities. My second session focused on balancing my pelvis. I have had excruciating period pain my entire life, after my second treatment to this day my pain had been 50% reduced.

After my first few sessions I reflected on how I had so many injuries/areas that had never been addressed even though I had been active in receiving a variety treatments from different health modalities like chiropractic, physio, massage ect... I was inspired by the difference I felt in body enough to commit to 5 years of study and 1-2 years to complete a thesis. I want this remarkable practise to have greater availability in my home province. This is why I study Manual Osteopathy.

Our approach

Our approach is different. The goal is to create alignment for healthy biomechanics, muscle re-patterning & re-education and myofascial enhancement. Our style  emphasizes the role of the musculoskeletal system for health. Taking into consideration the entire body, this gentle hands on approach of treatment gently mobilizes bones, muscles and joint utilizing the craniosacral system. Depending on the goal of treatment clients can be fully clothed or undressed and covered by sheets. Treatments begin with a thorough biomechanic and functional movement assessment.

Re-checking
the body and movement throughout the treatment allows Erin and James to focus on the cause of the pain or imbalance. The goal is to find and treat the cause of the pain, not just the manifestations. Each client is sent home with home care to supported treatment.
